Growing up in the Western world comes with a certain set of expectations. Having been brought up in Canada and The Netherlands has given me somewhat of a perspective on “Western upbringing” — if there is even such a thing. We are born. We are educated in preparation of work. Then we work. Eventually we retire — and die — at the end of it all.
